Publishing house

Who we are

Sanaga Land International is a Limited Liability Company registered in the State of Illinois, United States, founded in January 2026. We are an independent literary publisher — neither subsidiary nor imprint of any larger group. The decisions about what to publish, how to publish it, and how to defend it through the years are taken in-house, free of outside commercial pressure.

We are a small team. That is by design. Smallness is the condition under which careful editing, honest representation of authors, and durable relationships with bookstores and libraries become possible. We do not aspire to be larger than necessary.

Why we exist

Contemporary publishing has powerful incentives toward speed, format, and the loudest possible novelty. Books often have eight weeks to find their audience before they are pulled from shelves. Authors are routinely asked to write books that fit a template before they have written the books they actually have to write.

We exist for the other model. We choose books for the decade ahead. We expect them to find their readers slowly, deliberately, sometimes through a librarian's recommendation, sometimes through a teacher's gift, sometimes through a quiet conversation between two readers. The books that matter usually arrive this way.

How we work

Three commitments shape our editorial practice:

A professional distribution network.

Our books are distributed through the Ingram global wholesale network, the largest in the world, accessible to independent bookstores, university and public libraries, and the principal online retailers — wherever readers and institutions go to find serious literature. We add direct digital distribution through Apple Books, with Kobo Writing Life and Google Play Books to follow.

Rigorous selection.

We publish few books. Each title is chosen because it will, in our judgment, still be worth reading in fifteen years. We are not a volume. We are a curator.

Proprietary identifiers.

Every Sanaga Land title carries an ISBN purchased directly from Bowker, the official agency. This means Sanaga Land appears as the registered publisher in every bibliographic database — Books in Print, WorldCat, library catalogs across the world. The book remains ours. So does the responsibility for it.

Who we want to work with

Sanaga Land reads manuscripts in English and French, from authors anywhere in the world. We have a particular attentiveness for voices that bring perspectives underrepresented in mainstream publishing — but our criterion is not provenance, it is the work itself.

We are looking for novels and essays that take their time, trust the reader, and have something at stake. If that describes what you are working on, write to us at [email protected]. A thoughtful response will follow within twelve weeks.
